This is the address the internet sees when you browse. It is assigned by your internet provider and can reveal your approximate location.

The first half of a MAC address (the OUI) identifies the manufacturer. Our built-in mini-database covers the most popular vendors — smaller makers may not appear.
About NetKit
NetKit is a small, fast toolbox for the questions people ask about their internet connection every day: What is my IP? Why is my connection slow? Where does this address come from? What does this DNS record do?
Every tool runs right here in your browser using open, public lookup services — there is no NetKit server collecting your queries, no account to create and nothing to install. Open a tool, get your answer, close the tab.
NetKit is part of the TapeTool HQ network of free everyday tools for the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Quick answers
What is an IP address?
It's the number your internet provider assigns to your connection — like a return address for data. Websites see it so they know where to send the page you asked for. The big address at the top of this page is yours right now.
Can someone find my home address from my IP?
No. An IP lookup shows the approximate city and the internet provider, never a street address or a name. Only your provider knows exactly which customer used an address, and they only share that with law enforcement under legal process.
Why does my IPv6 line say “not detected”?
Many home networks and providers still run on IPv4 only. If your connection has no IPv6 route, no IPv6 address exists to show — that's normal and nothing is broken.
Why is my speed test slower than my plan?
Wi-Fi distance, other devices streaming, and peak hours all pull real-world speed below the headline rate on your bill. Test again plugged in by cable, close to the router, for your connection's best case.
